Dear students,

Not long until the new freshmen arrive and the introduction week begins. We have a little call for helpers and information about evening events for you!

Call for helpers
For the introduction week we need a few helping hands, because it will actually take place mostly in presence.
If you want to help, please sign up with your first and last name in our helper doodle: https://doodle.com/poll/gq5kg4xuvmfrxvfp . These are not(!) strenuous or time-consuming tasks either. We need about 3-5 people for each slot.

We will post the helpers 1 week before (12.10.) via the same channels as this message.

During the introductory week there will also be a couple of evening events open to all FIN'ers, which we would like to briefly advertise here.

Committee Elections 2020

Dear students,

it's almost time! In less than 2 weeks the committee elections will finally start (06. - 15. July 2020).

Committee elections ... What does that mean? Who will elect what and who? Who are the candidates?
These and possibly other questions will surely occupy you. And for that we have put together the most important information for you on our website: https://farafin.de/gremienwahlen

In addition, the StuRa page will soon be available, on which, in addition to the faculty student councils, the candidates of the student council (StuRa) and the Senate will be presented: https://wahlen.stura-md.de/de/ (will be online soon)

In the attachment you will find 2 posters - one with all important information and one with all candidates for the faculty student council (FaRaFIN) and the faculty council (FakRa).

At this point we would like to ask you to vote! Every vote is important and the higher the turnout, the more meaningful the election results are. We are your representatives and will stand up for you, but we need each and every one of you at the elections!

Since the elections are even held online (in the LSF), you won't even have to leave the house ;-) And the whole thing only takes a few minutes.

New Regulationc concerning Exams in times of pandemics

Hey folks,

some of you wrote to the examination board in connection to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. Acting on those requests, the following regulations have been made:

  1. The summer semester 2020 does not count towards the 15 month deadline to repeat failed exams. To be precise: The days from April 1st, 2020 to September 30th 2020 will not be counted.
  2. There have been several requests concerning the possibility to participate in written exams online, without having to be physically present in Magdeburg (be it for health concerns or for travel restrictions). Unfortunately, this will not be possible due to both legal and organizational reasons. Physical presence will therefore be required to participate in written exams.

Exceptionally this semester, if you are absent from an exam for whatever reason, this will be counted as a withdrawal from the exam, meaning that this exam attempt will then not be counted. There is no need to provide any justification for this.

Informations Regarding Committee Elections

Dear FIN-students,

the committee elections are coming up soon and as always we are looking for motivated people for FaRaFIN who want to support us.
Of course you have several options:

  1. You want to be active in the long term and:
    • participate in decision-making and voting at meetings or
    • take on a commission or similar, or
    • perhaps even take on more important tasks (e.g. board member)?

      Then write yourself on the election list until 01.06.2020 if you are interested. (Contact: Lydialydia.munick@farafin.de or Telegram @lydiamun)
  2. You want to get involved, but don't want to be on the election list? No problem! Take a look at the appendix and see which
    • appointee(s) you can be or
    • into which commissions you can even get on as a student representative without having to sign up for the list.
    • All appointees etc. will be elected after the committee election at the constituent meeting of the FaRaFIN (beginning of September). So you still have enough time to think about it.
  3. You would like to be a volunteer at some events? Then keep an eyes open for our requests for help! (Due to Corona currently not possible.)
  4. You would like to be part of the game evening team and help organizing? Then get in touch with spieleabend@farafin.de ! Even now during the Corona crisis this is possible, because there will be online game evenings.

Emergency Aid Fund

Tim, Till and Lydia will answer your questions about the FaRaFIN. About the tasks, about single positions (appointees, speakers, etc.), about the list and what other questions you have.

informations for the committee elections 2020

Dear students,

as you might have already noticed via your university mails, the committee elections 2020 will take place from 06.07. to 15.07.
In the period from 18.05. to 05.06. we can therefore forward the election proposals to the election office.

Now, among others, the FaRaFIN will of course also be newly elected. Therefore we want to call on you to think about whether you want to be on the list of the election proposal of the FaRaFIN.

Of course we would like to give you the opportunity to inform yourself in advance. Because surely one or the other question will come up in your head.
- What does it mean to be on the list?
- Is it important to be on the list?
- Which positions can be filled and what are the requirements and tasks?
- If I don't want to fill a position, how can I get involved otherwise?
- ...

Of course we want to discuss and clarify all these questions with you (also individually). For this purpose there will be a small Live-FAQ on Discord (https://discord.gg/dHRrdqu) on 06.05. and 09.05. at 18 o'clock in each case. That means some of us are online and answer all your questions.

Information about the Semester

Hello,

there is new information about the course of the current semester:

1. Large-sized exams that were cancelled in the 2nd exam period in March can be held starting in the end of May. For information about your specific exams please check your university emails very regularly. Examinations on a small scale can already be held under the given hygiene regulations.

2. The examination period after the summer semester could possibly be longer than usual. This is made possible by the decision of the Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs that WiSe should start on 1 November instead of 1 October this year. This could become necessary if examinations from the aforementioned examination period at the end of March are (only possible to be) taken after the semester, or if, for example, the exhibition halls and other large examination locations are needed more frequently in order to comply with the existing regulations. BUT: THIS IS NOT YET OFFICIAL INFORMATION. THIS ONLY SERVES AS INFORMATION ABOUT A POSSIBLE DECISION, SO THAT YOU CAN ALREADY PREPARE YOURSELF FOR IT AND WILL BE LESS SURPRISED IF IT BECOMES NECESSARY. :)

3. The rector expects an opening of the federal state. Similarly, Prime Minister Haseloff has indicated that the "quality of contacts" will improve next week. But the state government will not make the decision until tomorrow. This means for the university that there will be a return to the campus. However, it explicitly does NOT mean a return from online teaching to classroom teaching. The COMPLETE SEMESTER will take place ONLINE. However, by opening up the campus, it should be possible to use the rooms and Internet access again (in accordance with the distance regulations) and, if necessary, to offer courses that urgently require attendance (i.e. laboratory internships).

4. There should be more consultation hours with the lecturers. However, this is in the hands of the respective lecturers.

5. If you notice more effort than in a normal semester for a subject, you should inform the lecturer immediately. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can also contact us and we will contact the lecturer on behalf of the student body to prevent any tracing and possible discrimination.

6. There is immediate aid from the university (financial), the first round of which is to be paid out on 15.5., and from the StuRa and the FaRas (food and toiletries), which are to bridge the time until the payout. In addition to both emergency aid measures, an email from the StuRa will be sent to your university email address in the course of the evening.

Furthermore, more rooms will be equipped for video teaching in the future, so that digital formats will increasingly complement classroom teaching in the coming semesters.
